Self-Publishing/Independent Publishing

More authors are publishing their own books than ever before. They are insisting that their messages be heard even when traditional publishers reject their work. Yet without the knowledge and expertise to venture into publishing a book, self-publishing authors can easily become confused and dispirited, wasting their financial resources on companies who turn out inferior products.

With literally thousands of companies emerging to assist self-publishing authors, whose help does one hire?

  • Insist on seeing samples of a company’s work. If they aren’t on a website, ask for a sample. Look for a professional-looking cover and a quality binding and quality paper stock.

  • Compare the services offered. Look for companies who offer solutions from editing to printing to promotion and distribution.

  • Find a company that is both knowledgeable and personable. The book you have written is your “baby” and should be treated with care and concern.

  • Choose a company that will give you the most for your money, even if it’s more money. You will pay extra for the best.

  • Remember your ultimate goal is to sell your book and readers do judge a book by its cover.
